First Ever Views Of The Gas Giants...

Well, that was interesting...

I went out at 3.30am to try to observe the gas giants, but LP from a sodium street light and hazy conditions meant I could only see a colourless blob. I was using the 4.5" reflector with the 25mm and 10mm MA EP's.

Some 50 minutes later, after my original failed gas giants viewing session, I got a far better view of both Jupiter and 3 of it's moons apparently 180 degrees apart from each other, with the 2 outer ones closer together. Saturn was visible too, but fainter. It was unmistakable, with the rings tilted over.

Both planets looked a pale yellowish colour, this may have been the low height in the sky and the dawn approaching.

Back to bed now...
