Getting Started with my First Telescope

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I am just getting started with my first telescope, as outlined my my introduction post http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/205348-hello-from-belfast/. It's a Meade 4504 that has been given to me by a friend. There was only one lens with it, a H25mm which allowed me to see the full - full moon, but not very close or not zoomed in too much . I am thinking I should be looking into buying some additional lenses. I am thinking of buying an adaptor 1.25" to 0.965" which will allow me to buy 1.25" lenses, which I believe are easier and maybe cheaper to come by? What are your suggestions on this? Should I be looking for a kit that has all the lenses and filters for viewing the moon. I am also interested in starts as well as planets so I thought a few lenses would be better. I would lobe to hear your suggestions.

Seen a few on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370988065884?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Bear in mind that if with the eyepiece adapter you'll then need to wind the focuser in much more to reach focus. It might not move far enough. Though this can be solved, I'd keep it in mind and not go out buying a load of eyepieces until you know you can get once to reach focus.
