Meade f3.3 focal reducer and the Mak 180

Recommended Posts

HI there,

I have a question about the meade f3.3 focal reducer and using this with a Mak180. Will this work? I do have an adapter that gives the scope an SCT thread. I currently also use the meade electric focuser on the scope too. There are two main reasons why I am asking.

1. Primary so I can use the mak180 with a guide camera and image DSO's with my ED80.

2. Use the guide camera with my ED80 and use the MaK for DSO imaging at reduced focal length,

I believe the F3.3 would reduce the Mak180 f15 to around f5.5?

3. I have this set up as I also image planets with the Mak at f37.5 with a 2.5x barlow and DMK camera.

Many thanks for all who might respond

Ella

f/3.3 will give only small corrected field of view, so you won't make it a fast DS imaging scope. For guiding it would work better, but still it's a big and heavy guidescope with a moving primary mirror (may add error to guiding).
