What is the 'french' website?

Derek

Webastro. It's here; http://www.webastro....ad.php?t=105638 It's a good forum but the culture is one of being far more critical than on most of the anglophone ones.

Clearly we need reasonably coherent screens but the thing is to look at pictures from people you admire and reflect carefully on what it is you like. Background sky, stars, degree of noise (none at all is awful), colour,

resolution... Then when you look at your own you have an idea of where you'd like to be. What I'm really suggesting is that each data set has its own issues, its own demons and angels. There isn't, for me, a hard and fast routine leading to something I'm going to like. Ps and PI put superb tools at our disposal and our job is to see how to use them to get to where we want to be.

I think that a good way to ask for help with a picture is to say, 'What two or three things should I be working on as a priority?' That way people can offer targeted advice which is likely to be more helpful.

Another source of information comes from the world of fine art where painters have techniques for creating depth, balance, contrast and ways of directing the eye. You can often use these, albeit in a rather diluted form. My wife's a painter and we talk about this kind of thing. http://www.monique-chretien.net/
