barrel extensions for webcam conversion

does anyone have any ideas on what to use for the lifecam cover,the conversion shows that thay have used barrel extenders but it seems rather expensive way of doing things,I did consider buying a couple of cheap plossls and unscrewing the barrels for it,but just wondered if anyone had any better ideas.
