Hi - a thread topic that seems to crop up all the time, but, after much searching online, I could still use any pointers people have...

I am in the process of buying my first telescope, and have a choice between the Skywatcher 200PDS and the Altair Astro 8" Newtonian - both at the same price. The Skywatcher has lots of good reviews and I have had it recommended to me, but i have also been told that the Altair Astro is a better telescope - does anyone have any experience on either that could help inform my decision - it would be most appreciated!
