ccd or dslr

I have a Neximage ccd but really don't like the idea of taking a laptop around to attach to the ccd. I makes things so bulky.

Would a dslr camera be just as good if not even better.

I am interested in Moon and Planets pictures.

Also, is it possible to attach the usb cable of the ccd to anything else other than a laptop?

Some DSLR can make good AVIs, but that's still may require a lot of optimisation to get good planetary pics out of it. Moon would be less problematic. Planetary/Lunary imaging gives good results with webcams or better with dedicated planetary cameras - and they all need a laptop to work.
