Solar Observing

OK, I have the full aperture solar film, its dry and sunny, and i`m tempted to go out and see what I can see. Should I be worried about how hot my OTA will get, both on the outside (fork mounts, etc), and internally.... or does the solar film block as much IR as it does visible?

Hi Steve

If your solar film is placed at the front of the scope and is in un blemished condition

you should be able to look at the sun with no problems at all.

Your kit should not heat up as long as your solar filter does not slip off.

Just take your time and be very careful mate and most of all enjoy the views.

"careful" wont even get close to how pedantic I`ll be about everything I`ll do... leave a filter off at night - "[removed word]"... leave a filter off during the day - "ouch.. cyclops"
