Will I be able to see the Lunar Eclipse on 10th December?

Recommended Posts

According to this website the moon will rise in Edinburgh at 15:37

Moonrise, Moonset and Moonphase for United Kingdom – Scotland – Edinburgh – December 2011

But according to this site I should be able to see the penumbra eclipse (U4).

Total Eclipse of the Moon: 2011 December 10

Stellarium shows the moon above the horizon at the approapriate date/time - just.

OK - so it will be day (sunset is at 15:39) and probably cloudy but would I be totally out of my mind to climb a high hill and try and see what there is to be seen?

More correctly, you'll catch the partial umbral phase. Part of the Moon will be the red eclipsed colour, while part will probably appear more or less normal.

I've a feeling this might actually be the last chance British observers get to see much of any lunar eclipse; a look over that side seems think they're all over American and the Pacific for a few years to come.
