As a first scope?

Recommended Posts

HELLO!!!!!!!

I was just curious..how is this as a starter scope;

Sky-Watcher Startravel-120 (AZ3) Achromatic Refractor Telescope (10736) - Warehouse Express

EDIT: Just found this aswell: http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-sky-watcher-explorer-150pl-eq3-2-6inchparabolic-newtonian-ref/p1017710

EDIT 2: I just discovered that for the price range I've been setting, for just £30 more, I can have a 8" dob;

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-sky-watcher-skyliner-200-8-inch-20cm-dobsonian-telescope/p10565

TOO MANY CHOICES!!

Opinions on either would be nice!

My criteria (not all have to be do-able!);

-See a few of the brighter Messier objects and other bright DSO's

-See the planets (jupiter/saturn) with an okay view

-Storable, its not really too much of a problem, but how much room does a scope like this actually take up? Just so I know.

-A good view of the moon!

Note: I cant go for the EQ3-2 as it is too expensive.

Note 2: Warehouse Express on purpose! FLO's shipping is way too much. Its £40 compared to WE's 15 pounds.

Thanks!

Hi,

Try ebay and astrobuysell for a 2nd hand bargain. I got a Skywatcher 127 makcass for 235 GBP a week ago, with an EP set thrown in. Very portable, and on an EQ3-2 mount too. If you really want to go new, then that won't be a bad scope for the money, but if you're prepared to sacrifice a bit of sparkle, you may get better..
