I cant get autoguiding to work, its like the telescope has a life of its own.
I've read through instructions online and looked at lots of tutorials on YouTube - Cuiv the lazy geek, Astroaddict, AstroOnBudget, Wido, AstroExploring.
Wrote down all the steps, going back over them again and and again to make sure I had everything I needed.Downloaded and set up ASCOM, NINA, PHD2, Stellarium based on instructions from YouTube
Hooked the telescope, dslr camera, guide scope and guide camera up to the laptop.
Polar aligned the telescope, did a 3 star algnment, then plugged the telescope into the laptop
ASCOM, NINA and PHD2 recognized all the equipmentIn NINA I set the target and slewed to it.
I was expecting the telescope to go left, but it went the opposite direction. When I told it to go to another target it did the same thing, nothing was on target.
So I know what I have to do, but doing it and trying to fix it are the problem, havent a clue, hence the plea for help.

Im new to guiding. got a present of the SV905c
Set it up, PHD2 recognizes it, but when I set it to loop the image that comes back is pure noise.
I tried opening it in SharpCap and everything is ok there.
I tried setting the exposure to different settings and even to Auto.
Also changed the gain from 1-100 but still getting a noise image.I would have thought it would show something rather than just noise.
I have to try it out tonight when it gets dark, so might be different.
Just wondering if anyone had issues with it and PHD2.
Thanks

Apologies if this is the wrong place. Thought it might be ok under DIY.
I have a good view W to NE from the patio at back of my house.
I have grass at the side, and it gets a little soft during the winter.
I was thinking of putting down 3 patio slabs to get a S to W view.
Has anyone done this and if so any tips?

- If the sysnscan box where the motor cables plug into is one of the newer units that has a USB type B port then you can use a standard USB A-B cable
- If the synscan box has just the power / handset / autoguide ports then an EQDIR cable (the second link in Peters post) can be used by removing the handset and plugging this cable in to the handset port. Windows should install the driver automatically
- An alternative (and expensive) way is to purchase a serial to USB cable like this and then purchase the cable Peter linked to first. This is connected to the HANDSET and the handset is left connected to the mount. You then set the handset to PC-DIRECT mode to allow pass through communications to the mount.
Personally if the Synscan unit doesn't have a USB port I would opt for the second suggestion and use the LYNX Astro EQDIR cable.
Thanks

Hi there,
I have an EQM35PRO Synscan goto but don't have the cable needed to do the firmware update.
RJ-11 / DB9 link cable
I looked online but can only find the DB9/USB adapter.
Anyone know where I can get the cable that goes into the handset then into the pc?
Thanks.

I think it's #3
Doing 3 star alignment with the mount then going into NINA.
I'll try your suggestions.
Thanks so much.
