  1. At 72 I am new to “stargazing “ and find it challenging and rewarding. The seeing conditions here in MN are not the best primarily due to weather. So my learning experiences outside are not many. That being said, my refractor and AVX mount are ready for year two of rewarding experiences. My last session didn’t go well, and caused some concern. While I was finishing my two star alignment, the DEC axis misbehaved. It resulted in a situation where I could not relieve the tension on the axis. I disassembled it to where it calls for loosening the two set screws via the access holes and undo the nut. Here is my problem. The set screws are misaligned from the access holes, so proceeding any further would be futile. I thought about drilling two new access holes but I ‘m hoping that someone in the lounge could be of assistance I called HPS last week and then e mailed their tech rep Toby. He will explain the situation, ( including my video ) to Celestron . If they feel that they should not honor my ( 11 / 18 ) warranty for this issue, because I made a gallant and professional attempt to fix this situation myself, so be it. Hoping for the best Clear skies!
