how to start?

Recommended Posts

If you want to capture Lunar and Planetary images, a good start is a webcam connected to a laptop. Philips spc900 is the webcam of choice for most, hopefully another forum member will post a link to them for you.

Some people start just by putting a mobile phone camera or one of those digital mini cameras up to the eyepiece if you have either. Some surprisingly reasonable results have been obtained this way.

You could get a webcam. The Phillips SPC880 (flashed up to a 900) is a popular choice amongst astronomers. Great for shooting planets with any type of motorised mount. Some have done it on manual driven mounts too.

for the webcam for the best price currently. You'll need a 1.25" nosepiece to attach it to the scope (on same page).

So there's three options for a start :)

If you go the webcam route you'll need Registax to align the frames. And you can use Gimp for post image processing. Both free software downloads.
