At last I'm going to start stargazing. I've been into astronomy since watching Carl Sagan and Heather Couper's TV programmes as kid.

Afet finding my way around the sky with naked eye I'm going to buy a telescope but don't want waste money on something useless so any pointers to threads advising starters would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If your after value for money with regards to aperture then the dobsonian scope will provide you with the best views. This scope is manual in its tracking and requires your own knowledge to locate objects. No point having GOTO if the scope is to small to resolve what the system has located. The above link will get you on the right road but do come back to us regarding any further questions.

Clear skies in the meantime.

James

hi from sussex, my advice is read read read, squint at stars, read a bit more, squint at more stars, read some more... then count the pennies before you choose a scope - its a great hobby, and this forum is packed with helpful friendly folk who will answer all your questions. welcome and Good luck :)
