Mount Leveling

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Can anyone please advice me om how accurate the spirit level bubbles are on mounts? I have a Celestron CG5, mounted onto a pier, the pier top plate is a machined plate & is accurately leveled using a good quality spitit level, but the inbuilt mount spirit level is way off centre once its in position. Am I to ignore the mount level or adjust the pier plate until the mount bubble is level? :D

Cheers...

The bubble levels on most mounts are pretty useless! Ignore it and carry on. Actually the only alignment that MUST be true is the polar axis, as long as that is OK it doesn't actually matter at all in which direction the "solid" bit of the mount is pointing. We just tend to make it level for convenience.
