collimation hell

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Thanks for the helpful suggestions on how to reattach my secondary mirror after it fell off my c9.25 while installing Bobs Knobs. I took off the fastar cap and managed to get my hand in to retrieve the secondary.

But....

as you can imagine the collimation is well out. No matter how hard i try i cant get anywere near good collimation. The best i have managed when looking at a defocused star is large doughnut with the black centre well to one side ( no sign of any concentric rings), also a black shadowy area to that side as well. I have kept adjusting the bobs knobs to no avail, also i am scared that i may dislodge the secondary again and this time hit the primary mirror. Can anyone recommend an easy way to collimate

Philip
