how many filters at one time?

Recommended Posts

The filters screw either into the bottom end of an eyepiece or (more convenient) into the end of the 90 degree diagonal.

You can "stack" a number of filters but each piece of glass in the optical path does lessen image quality a bit.

No real advantage to combining filters. Each one is designed for a rather specific task - for instance, if you are looking at the moon, a little light pollution won't bother you at all - so there would be no reason to stack a Moon filter with a LP filter. Vice versa is also true, if looking in deep space for a nebula - you wouldn't want a dark moon filter, it would make the nebula invisible.

All that said, you can't hurt anything by trying it out. If you find a new amazing combo of filters for something - post it and let others try your "recipie"

Other than using the two polarising filters that are combined to make a variable moon filter, I'm struggling to think of any time - real or imagined - when I would use more than one filter at once.

As the Prof. says, they're pretty specific things really.
