All these lists are very sensible indeed.

I intend to take a camping stove and I'm going to cook a nice hot meal on Saturday night, of the stick-to-your ribs variety.

There'll be hot chocolate too and the possibility of bacon sandwiches in the day.

What every male astronomer needs is an ample woman, who will:

  • cook warming food to tuck into
  • occasionally appear with a hot coffee at the eye piece
  • act as a living hot water bottle at 4am. (How lucky is Ian??!)

And what will be my heat source?

Well...the magic of the night sky...good company...the fascination of images created on site...(and maybe a bottle of gin and a fan heater;)).

HehHeh!, there'll be a long queue at your caravan Lulu :D.

I'm willing to offer round the drinks and nibbles...but acting as a hot water bottle at 4am to anyone else?...Ian might not be willing to share...:D:(

ps We're in a tent now, Ron, but it's comfy, so be sure to pop round for a cuppa.

@malc-c.... save it as Word 2003 version (.doc) and you can attach..

My packing list has two tick columns - one for assembly into the conservatory, one for when it has been packed into the car!

Don't forget...

Spare batteries

Spare USB leads

Hot air blower

Mine will be:

Tent

Air bed + bed pump

Reflective sheeting

Sleeping bag

Duvet

Lantern (red sheet adapted, solar/12V/230V rechargeable brightness adjustable LED)

Maglite torch (red adapted) + rechargable AA batteries + AA battery charger

Oil Radiator heater

16A hookup

Wind break

Stove + fuel

Kitchen table

Bowl

Chair

Water holder

Flask

Cafetere (travel one that's insulated and doesn't have glass)

Food..

Towels

Layers of clothes

Phone + charger

Then worry about the equipment!

Beer.. travelling in the front passenger footwell, the opposite end of the car from the scopes etc.

The ones people tend to forget are Bin Bags

You would be surprised how many ickle animals sniff out food at night and rip the bags outside the tent to get at it (plus the make a temp scope cover)

I wonder if its possible for me to forget my 8 year old son, would certainly make for a more peaceful weekend! :D

"Pack the things you want first , last. "

Ie if you can unpack your scopes last as you dont want to be climbing over them or leaving them on the ground whilst you try to get to your tent.

Great advice....remember it may be raining, so have your tent and waterproofs easy to hand and you can get them out quick.
