The conspicuous NGC2304 - DSLR

Recommended Posts

Not much to show for here, I only had time to take 5 frames of 300 seconds at ISO1600 on this little conspicuous galaxy. I don’t think a 750mm scope at f7.5 does it justice… but thought I’d process it just the same and post the result.

All images, including calibration images, where acquired with BackyardEOS :(

I had 63 darks matching this target in my dark library which resulted in a very smooth background. I’ll probably add more frames when the sky clears up.

Telescope: Orion EON 120mm ED

Mount: SkyWatcher NEQ6 Pro

Guiding: Orion 80ST, SSAG, PHD

Camera: Canon Digital 40D (modified by HyperCams)

FF/FR: Astro-Tech 2” field flatner

Filter: IDAS

Exposures: 6 x 300 seconds @ ISO 1600

TOTAL: 0 hour 30 minutes

Acquisition: BackyardEOS – RAW :o

Stacking: DeepSkyStacker – 63 Darks, 25 Bias, and 15 Flats applied

Post-processing: Photoshop, NeatImage

Location: Clarence Creek, Ontario, Canada

Date(s): March 3, 2011

Constructive criticism welcome!

Great. We don't see this one often. Nice round stars. I would take the background down a bit.

Nice image of a lovely subject, and one I must have a go at myself. Except it's NGC 2403, not 2304!

Yeah, I know! I made mistake in the subject while posting and editing the post will not allow me to change the subject.

Thanks,

Guylain

I got the same feedback from another forum. Here it is a again with a bit more processing... but 30 minutes is not a lot to show for :o

Thanks for the comment, my processing skills are mediocre at best and every little bit helps.
