Flaming Star, Flipping Heck!

Recommended Posts

Had my first go at IC 410 and the Flaming Star Nebula with my stock Canon 550D and quite frankly I'm blown away.

I'd managed to get reasonable polar alignment on the Astrotrac after a few test shots so started imaging with 3 minutes exposures,

I used a 200mm lens at F3.2 and got 32 frames at 1600iso. Earlier in the evening I'd tried shooting the California Nebula

with very disappointing results so I wasn't expecting much but WOW :(

Very nice...

The latter canons are pretty good un-modded as this pic shows... its definitely worth spending more time on the target as theres more to come yet :( ...

Canon 200mm f2.8L by any chance - having watched the kit pics scrolling by...

Great result - great colours!

Wow, what a wide field....

How do you incorporate the LP filter (just out of interest), into the train? Screwed onto the front, a rear gel or inside the camera...

Clear skies,

Awesome pic, that gives me some hope and inspiration (another Unmodded Canon owner here). I sometimes wonder if lots of 3 min subs are more useful than fewer 5 min subs.
