Darks, Flats, Bias frames explained

It may have been posted before, but I couldn't find anything similar in a search, so I thought I'd share this I found last night.

I remember trying to work out what these terms meant when I first started reading, so this may well help someone else.

Nice find...

If your using Deepskystacker then it uses different terminology for some of the other "calibration" frames so it worth having a look at the online help files if thats what your going to be using...

Looking at DSS 3.3.2 in Registering and stacking, I see:

Dark Files

Flat Files

Dark Flats

Offset/Bias

Aren't Bias flats the same as Dark Flats?

Found out: Dark frame the same exposure length as the flat file.

The author of DSS insists on using different terminology to most everyone else, God knows why. It may be a language thing mixing up verbs and nouns.

Have a look here for another simple view on calibration.
