Just Seen My First Galaxy - M81

I've just been out and have been trying to find galaxies to view. I only managed to see M81. I couldn't see any others. I live in a market town and thought that the light pollution wasn't that bad, but it must be. I now know where the phrase 'faint fuzzies' comes from. That was all I could see. I could take in what I was seeing, but it was a bit underwhelming. I found it with my 20mm ep and then used a 15mm - still a faint fuzzy. It's good fun searching, but I think I need to find a dark sky site to see more galaxies. Now having a brew and waiting for Saturn to rise above the surrounding houses.

Well done on your first galaxy. I find that most don't look "spectacular" through the eyepiece, the fun is in the hunt, and in knowing a bit about them, particularly how far away they are
