Nebula Filter

Hi guys!

Just wondering what additional detail I might be able to see with an OIII filter (1.25") and using my Skyhawk 1145p.... Any ideas?

From my experienece of using filters in small aperture scopes I'd say an O-III might be to "harsh" in a 114mm scope, this is it filters out too much light and what's left would only deliver dim views.

A UHC would be a better choice in my view - the Skywatcher ones are reasonably priced and seem to work well. I found an Orion Ultrablock was pretty good with my 4" refractor (the Ultrablock is a UHC type filter).

These filters really only benefit nebulae though. They don't improve the view of galaxies and clusters.

Thanks for the reply and information. I have a goto mount so thought that this type of filter maybe of use when browsing the night sky, but as you have said, perhaps a UHC would be better...

I've just ordered a skywatcher UHC filter after reading on these forums that the 0-III would be to much for my small scope. When it arrives I'll post something on here about how good it is.
