Hi Milkyjoe,

An interesting thread for a newbie like me! I also have the same ST102 scope you do and have realised that the EP jungle is something I have got to negotiate and pretty quick if I'm going to progress with this hobby. You didn't mention if you are a speccy wearer, if you are I'd be interested to know what EP's you end up finding agreeable.

I would like to try one of these panoptics, but I can't justify the hefty price tags these eps demand..., but it is very, very tempting! lol

No, no. it's actually " but it's very, very Addictive!" Once you buy your first Televue eyepiece you're on that slippery slope to Televue addiction and unfortunately there's no known cure. They're really that good.

Manufacturing any kind of optics to the highest possible standards is a very expensive process requiring incredible precision and obsessive quality control. Also don't forget with a specialised product such as a telescope eyepiece the market is quite limited so development and other costs have to be recovered from a limited number of units sold.

I think that the best way to look at it is that while you don't actually need a Televue eyepiece :) they're a wonderful indulgence that you won't regret buying as they will work in any scope and will show you that bit more than ordinary eyepieces. Also while you're probably going to own a number of telescopes your eyepiece collection will last for as long as you are involved in this great hobby.

John

PS

There is also Pentax addiction as well. :)

However you place your priorities, optical junkie or bargain hunter, or both, let's enjoy the view.

The best value thing you will ever buy has not changed since the middle ages. It remains... the book.

Olly

Couldn't put it better if I tried!
