Hi Rab. My advice is to take your time, read up and try and not give into telescope temptation - that is what I am trying to do! Still don't know what scope I'll get myself but the longer I leave it, the more I'll know and, hopefully, the better the end choice.

Plenty of help and resources in the SGL to get started and thinking though.

Welcome to SGL

On the scope choice question my advice would be to take your time. Read the guides and advice on this site, join a local astronomy society - they may have loan scope that you can try, or go to some astro meetings and talk to people and look at the equipment.

I've changed my mind about 3 time already in the last 2 months and am not planning on buying for another couple at least unless a bargin falls into my lap.
