What Binoculars ?

I already have the Celestron 15x70's and I love them to bits.

But I have the choice of some Celestron upclose 8x40's or Helios Fieldmaster 7x50's

Forget the price difference, what would be the ones you would go for ?

I tend to use my 8x40's more than my 7x50's.

I'd go with the 7x50

7x50 gives an exit pupil of 7.14mm which is on the useful limit. Unless you have good eyes, probably young, it is unlikely that they will open far enough to let all that light in. If that is the case you are humping the extra weight for nothing.

8X40 gives an exit pupil of 5mm which is entirely realistic.

(This is why my 15x70s are brighter for me than were some 11X80s I once had.)

Another vote for Helios 7X50.

The exit pupil calc is a useful one. If the 7x50's are better but your eyes can't see that they are better then what's the point?
