Cannot get QHY5 to work with PHD

Hi Guys

Since my hard drive crashed 3 days ago i am trying to load software for my QHY5 guidecamera on a different laptop.

Can some kind soul inform me as to what software i have to download for the QHY5 and which websites i should download from to enable me to start guiding again using PHD.

They work on XP 32 bit and 64 bit and vista 32 bit( im using them now!)

I must be doing something wrong because when in PHD after confirming "on camera" and selecting Ascomv5 in the camera icon

the camera box opens with QHY5v and there is not an option for QHY5 !!!

What am i doing wrong?

Also,the red light on the back of the QHY5 camera is never lit !!

Try selecting CCD Labs, QGuider as the camera. Personally I select Ascomv5 but alot of users find they can control the camera with QGuider. I guess they are using a different driver or model?

Am i correct in thinking that i do not have to have the QHY5 connected to the mount to check whether it will work with PHD ?

just the usb lead is needed to test the camera video.

Connect the QHY5 via CCD labs Q guider option, only use the Ascom v5 camera if you have a QHY5v.

It does not have to be connected to the mount to get an image on the screen.

For some reason i cannot get the red light on the rear of the QHY5 to come on .

Any suggestions ?

this is probably a stupid question but I assume you are pressing the capture button after selecting the camera? You could test the camera directly by running the QGVideo capture programme that is with the drivers

I can only get my QHY5 to power up and be recognised in PHD if I plug it in via USB once PHD is ready to run. I have had occassions where I've not had power, and it seems to be the order in which I connect the leads to the PC.

It is essential that you always use the same USB port to connect the camera.

Plug it into a different port and you will have to set it up again.

When I get a new computer and put ASCOM5 on it I couldn't use PHD with the QHY5 connected as the CCD Labs Q-Guider thingie. However it works 100% with the ASCOM diver.

I had similar problems to this and in the end I downloaded a new version of the ascom driver and the latest platform and that seemed to cure it for me.

I dont wish to hijack this thread but as we all seem to use PHD and a QHY5 can someone give me a list of the settings in PHD that work as I am having difficulties with guiding.

Help greatly appreciated

What are you using for your guidescope John? I use my QHY5 as a guide camera with a 9x50 finderscope. If you use the same settings as I do but you're using a totally different scope to guide, then the settings will be useless for you. I had a go at sticking my QHY5 on my main scope and the settings and resulting graph was totaly different.
