Identifying front part of scope big plastic cover

Recommended Posts

On the front of the telescope there is a dust cover I think that is what it is known as. But It also has a removable plastic cover so if the big round plastic cover is left on you can remove a small plastic cover.

Does this make any sense? Put it this way if its left on you cant see out of the telescope. Apart from keeping the dust off the front of the telescope is there any other purpose to it?

:D

If your viewing a very bright object (moon) you

can leave the big cover on and take off the small cover.

Makes it more comfortable (less bright) to use.

It also has the effect of increasing the F number of your scope.

Also, very handy to glue some Baader solar filter foil over

the small hole if you want to study the sun.

BEWARE.. if you want to do this, please make sure that you have understood the dangers,

looking at the sun through a non filtered scope will result in blindness.

Thanks this now ends my riddle of the plastic cover.

Nope do not think I will be taking any chances in veiwing the sun. At least not untill I am way more advanced.

Thanks for answering my identification issue.
