Was I dreaming?

Last night, after I got frustrated with the goto computer I just randomly pointed my scope at places, and I decided to look in the general direction of Sirius, which was next to a tree, and I kept pointing the scope lower and lower yet I still couldn't see the tree did I have a waking dream? Or is this some trick of focal length?

If the tree was relatively close, it would have just been very out of focus. Being dark would have made it almost impossible to see.
