Homemade dew shield from ebay

Lidl camping mat 'd be cheaper ,and this is likely as not going to be too small .

This is what I used. I put the two pieces together with black electrical tape and cut a small peice out for the dovetail.

2 A4 size Black Craft foam sheets - 2mm thick on eBay (end time 27-Feb-11 09:16:27 GMT)

Can someone please enlighten a newbie who doesn't understand "dew shield." If I search the web for them, I see rigid tubes which I would have called lens hoods if they were on a camera. But that doesn't seem to match with DIY versions in foam or matting.

So can someone point me to an idiot's guide to dew shields?

A roll of camping mat from Tesco £4.50, cut to size and it comes with two elasticated 'bands' that fit my celestron 127 perfectly to hold it in place.
