Advice on Celestron Nexstar

I have a Nexstar 8SE, which I am enjoying immensely. The only negative part of the set up is the finderscope, which is a Celestron starpointer. I hate these red dot finders with a passion and would like to replace with something better. So...

First of all, has anyone got any suggestions?

Secondly, does anyone know if a Skywatcher 6x30 finder would fit onto the Nexstar bracket without me having to drill new holes (which I really don't want to do).

My budget is not massive for this so keep the suggestions cheap and cheerful!

Hi slangers, I used a 6se for a while and the only thing I kept when I sold it was one of these, its on my 925 now

works really well, you would maybe need to get a new shoe for it to fit on your scope

Thanks Alan- looks like an interesting suggestion- I can see the circle or crosshairs being an improvement on the simple red dot. I think I would rather have an actual scope though- my sky suffers from pollution and it can be difficult to pick up all but the brightest stars through the glass screen of the red dot finder.

I see you said you hate rdf's but this one is really quite good, I much prefer it to the 8x50 finderscope on the 925

I had a similar hate/hate with the rdf on my 6SE. The main problem with a replacement was that the mounting bar seemed to relate to nothing I tried. Eventually gave up and bought a Digital Angle Gauge with magnetic Base instead. Now I have no problems finding objects.

I've gone for a Skywatcher 6x30 Right Angle jobby, with a dovetail mount. Hopefully my troubles will be over (he said naively).
