Making some progress

Recommended Posts

Well after my first very noisy attempt at a spectrum of Epsilon Aurigae near Ha I have paid more attention to focus and guiding. I followed the advice in Buil guide to focusing the Lhires III and used PHD guiding to guide on the slit.

Having done this I managed the attached with a 300sec single exposure. I was going to do more exposures to reduce the noise from my CCD camera but the clouds rolled in. All I have done is to do a dark subtraction, made the spectra horizontal in Iris and done the spectral extraction and calibration using the Ne lamp spectra in Vspec.

I have now spent some time with the Lhires II off the telescope trying to optimise the image quality. If this gives the hoped for improvements then I think I may be in business.
