Supernova 2011b with just a 200mm lens

Had to have a go at this one last night so I quickly set up the Astrotrac and soon discovered what a pain a ball and socket head is aiming towards the celestial pole.

I didn't have much time so I used a Canon 200mm lens on my unmodded 550D a took a guess on the framing, what you see below is the full frame with NGC2655

and the Supernova enlarged to show the detail. I managed to get 9 exposures of 120sec @ 1600iso, I was amazed firstly that I actually got the galaxy it in the frame

and stunned that I had actually recorded my first Supernova.
