Whats the difference?

I have been looking for an external power supply to run my 400D from the mains. I have found this item on Amazon:

Ex-Pro Replacement Canon part CAPS700, CA-PS700: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Which appears to do what I want yet is so cheap compared to the optional power pack (ACK-DC20).

What am I missing?

You will also need the dummy battery for the specific camera...

I use something similar and can run the cameras from a 2400 mAH NiMH pack for 8-10 hours of exposures

I'd like to see if it could have a 12v input without much modification. But I doubt it.

Billy...those Astronomiser ones are my options right now. Pricey but they'll be worth it I reckon.

Absolutely fine...

I use packs of 10 x 2400 mAH AA NiMH cells to run the adaptor or if its inthe obs they run of the obs 13.8V supply

In my opinion it worth getting the pro style one..

The Voltage regualtor will generate heat and that the last thing you want inside the camera body when your imaging. Whenever I have made Power Supplies for my camera the regulator has always been external...
