nice split and pic Ian, i find it's a good indication of the quality of my sky if i can clearly split Polaris with my 8 inch dobber- love the info also provided, how hard is to start observing the variable stars out there? I think this might be an area i would like to get into.

I'm more into double Star observing & Measuring but I do some magnitude estimations which take me into variable star observing.

The best place I know of is the BAA has an active variable star section and so do the AAVSO

Nice image, I too didnt know that Polaris was a double until my GOTO told me It did split ok with the 130 newt though.

I noticed that a while ago, the closer i zoomed into Polaris the more I saw a star pop out from behined it. I was using starry night mind you at the time.

I use photoshop elements 4.0.

I just chose a suitable font size & type the info onto the image.
