Whippy

Recommended Posts

Just like last years' thread, this is designed for you DSO imagers out there to show off some of your best efforts from 2010. From the beginner to the advanced, everyone is welcome to post and we'd appreciate it if you could include a commment about what kit you used.

One post per member and up to 5 of your favourites, please don't comment on others' images as this is intended to be a showcase, thanks!

Enjoy!

2010 was much better for me than 2009, maybe having an observatory had something to do with it! Highlight for me was a fortnight trip to Les Granges to meet up with Olly. After a snowy start we had night after night of great conditions. The needle galaxy is from this trip.

OMG! Can't compete with this stuff, but as I'm a newbie I excuse myself that!

Only started in September so only managed three images since then.

All with 200P/EQ5 unguided

Pleiades with a Nikon D40 unmodded

Other two with a Nikon D70 modded

Here are my best efforts from my first full year of imaging (and indeed owning a telescope). Inspired by the amazing images from other members, I'm gonna stick at it!

All taken with following equipment:

- Nikon D70 (unmodified)

- Skywatcher 150DPS

- Vixen GP mount, no guiding

M45 Pleiades - 38x2min

NGC891 & Abell Galaxy Cluster 347 - 37x2min

Fireworks Galaxy (NGC 6946) and cluster NGC 6939 - 20x4min

NGC 7023 Iris Nebula - 60x2min

M33 Triangulum Galaxy - 87x2min

I didn't manage much in the way of deep sky last year... All with the Celestron 80ED and Canon 450d, guided on each image

M13 - with a 2x TC (1200mm, f/15)

m13-24x5-iso400-1200mm-2xdrizzlered.jpg

M101 - I was never overly happy with this...

m101-76x10-entropy.jpg

Double Cluster - This one I was happy with :)

I decided at the end of 2010 to go for a cooled CCD at last.

I enjoy wide fields so used a 105mm camera lens, 200mm camera lens and an old Takahashi FS78 with Sky 90 reducer to see what I could frame. The 105 worked well. The Takahashi isn't matched to the reducer so I'm going to have to fiddle. The 200mm is a very old Ai Nikon lens and won't play wide open. I took 5 frames on the SNR and gave up. Re think required.

All with Ha filter.

Californian - 105

Rosette & Cone - 105

Heart and Soul - 105

SH2-240 SNR - 200

Flaming Star - Tak.

2: Heart Nebula (1000d + ED80)

3: M45 Pliades (1000d + SW 150P)

Hi, a mixed bunch but widefield has been the passion for the last year, mostly.

TEC 140 apo, M33 (2 panel mosaic) and the Trifid Nebula.

Takahashi FSQ85 with 0.75 reducer, North America-Pelican 2 panel mosaic,

Heart, Soul and comet Hartley, 9 panel mosaic (but comet from the TEC.)

Samyang 85 lens, Geoptik adapter, Meissa (AKA Lambda Orionis) Nebula.

Cameras, Atik 4000 mono and OSC usually combined.

Mounts EQ6 and Takahashi EM200.

Clear skies,

Olly

I imaged with The C8 at F6.3 in 2010. As my images are unguided, 60 seconds is the limit, I was processing the heck out of the images to make something of them. Finally I decided I needed to go to an F4 Scope. Here in BC its cloudy from the end of September until January. So when a clear sky came on New Year's Eve, I got of the couch, saw first light with the F4 Newtonian and got my two best images on the last couple hours of 2010.

Both Nikon D5000 - ISO 6400

Astro-Tech AT8IN Imaging Newtonian

Celestron CG5 ASGT

Andromeda - 7x60 seconds

M45 - 5x60 seconds

james4-albums-starchasing-picture8279-m31-7x60-sec-unguided-nikon-d5000-astro-tech-at8in.jpg

M45 -

james4-albums-starchasing-picture8277-m45-5x60-sec-unguided-nikon-d5000-astro-tech-at8in.jpg

Looking forward to some 'fast' imaging in 2011

Hi all,

Well last year was my first year of ever owning a telescope, and I can see a massive improvment of my imaging.

I going to start with my first, and most favourite DSO... M57

This was taken in June of last year using my 200P and my HEQ5.

bulldog_keiran-albums-dso-picture5449-m57.jpg

Next is my M27 from October using my Megrez 72...

bulldog_keiran-albums-dso-picture7091-m27-dumbell-nebula-10-10-10-very-dark-site-10-subs-9-75-sec-1-300-sec-5-darks-match.jpg

Then is my M42 from December taken with my 200P...

bulldog_keiran-albums-my-best-picture8013-m42-rework.jpg

And my favourite is M31 with abit of help withthe processing from Cloudwatcher...

Thanks Keiran

At last I have remembered to post the 2010 pics. There has definately been some progress since 2009. :)

Saludos

p.s. Just a reminder to read the first post of this thread before posting. I think it´s for pictures and not for comments on the pictures.
