Rosette Nebula 8th & 9th january 2011

I did this over two nights, this is the first time I have combined subs done on separate nights and the longest image I have done so far.

8th January 8 x 5mins

9th Jan 30 x 5mins

Total 3 hours and 10 mins

Modified Canon EOS 450D + CLs filter + darks flats and bias.

Guided on QHY5 and PHD

Processed in DSS and CS3

As it was 0 degrees on 8th and -2 degrees on 9th I did two lots of darks and just chucked it all into DSS and kept my fingers crossed it would work.

Whoa, that is a beauty, really natural yet detailed.

There is a wee gradient in the background, green to red. One for PixInsight, perhaps?

I have just attended to the left hand side, hope this is better. I think I spent so much time with Rosette zoomed in, I missed the border of the image.

Great. I think the background sky in the top left is the best. The bottom left is full of Ha anyway, from memory, so I think you have very nearly nailed it. How did you do it?

I know some-one who can't go after all, not sure if he's sold his pitch, but if you're interested I'll find out.

People in astronomy seem very friendly and keen to share their knowledge and experience, I would not have learnt to image without their help.
