simple moon map?

Recommended Posts

I've got the freeware moon map program everyone recommends, but I don't get on with it very well - it gives too much information, and I'm not sure what labels belong to which features.

Is there a simple map somewhere online with an overview of the main features (I'm looking for a simple image with labels, no fancy software please!). I only need the main features as I am trying to learn the rudimentary basics of lunar geography...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's also google.com/moon too for the basic map.

I'm attempting to locate the crater I observed last night during a quick gap in the clouds (having a grab and go setup - vixen A80Mf+porta mount - is really turning out to be real boon).

The crater was close to the dark boundary with three smaller craters in a line and a smooth section to the 1-2 o'clock position.

I'm amazed how much detail you can get!

Hi Nick, maybe it was Clavius? This is an eyeball-view screenshot from the VMA... does it look like the crater you saw?
