He was using a Planishere chart . Can I buy one from a book shop or is it an order item of the Internet ?

I got mine from Amazon, I've seen them in Waterstones also. Very handy for learning your way around the main constellations.

I started off with one and a pair of 10x50 bins. The planisphere is a great tool to have. The fact that you hold it above your head means that you get a real sense of where things are in the sky.

Was in Waterstones this morning and they sell for about £8. £5.25 on amazon but currently out of stock (probably after being mentioned on stargazers live last night)

I have a Philip's Planisphere. You should be able to pick them up in book shops, but I can't guarantee that for you!

I'll be out buying my 2011 Stargazers Almanac this weekend. I hopefully can pick up a planisphere also. I want one to pin on the wall just for old times sake.

I just found them online in my local bookstore. I've ordered the Phillips one (10 euro).

I'm too lazy to go 10 mins down the road. LOL.

I know it sounds daft but make sure you get a UK one, normally marked as 51' latitude.

I have seen them for sale on Amazon which are for other areas, even the USA ones can be a lot different in latitude.

My Missus mum bought me one back from Denver, you`d be surprised how much more you can see from the good old US of A..... not much use here though LOL

Back then I didn't know where anything was up there and it really helped me gain some basic knowledge of the main constellations.

I've still got the one I bought in 1977, when I was doing my O'level in Astronomy. It's got a copyright date of 1972 on it, so they've been around a while!

I bought mine from W H Smiths for around £5. Its a really good tool to help you around the sky. I didn't really know what i was looking at until I bought one. The only thing I find is I sometimes think I'm looking at something but I'm bit unsure if I'm looking at what I think it is.
