EOS Utility and Netbooks workaround

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have had trouble getting the EOS utility to run on my netbook due to screen resolution. My toshiba netbook is running Windows XP so all you need to do is the following

1. Right click on the desktop. Select properties

2. Click on the settings tab.

3. Click on the advanced button

4. Click on the monitor tab.

5. Uncheck the button thats says 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display'

Once you have unchecked this you can then set the resolution to allow you to use the EOS utility. All you do is scroll to move around the screen.

Hopefully focussing will be easier now.

I am considering buying notebook but I am not sure if I can install my EOS Utility from CD. I guess I will have to buy external CD drive but installation of this software go without any problem? What about other astro software? Can notebook handle stelarium or guiding programs?

Copy the CD to a memory stick and install ikt form there...

As Kerpp30 said If the netboook has a screen whose height res is < 768 then the software wont install but will run - although not all the software will...

Some of the netbooks like the Samsung NC10 allow you to set a higher res and scroll around it...

I just connected an external monitir to do the install

APT is an excellent alternative and works fine on my NC10
