NEQ6/EQ6 mount

Recommended Posts

Hello, can somebody please tell me if the Skywatcher NEQ6 Pro goto mount is the same mount as the skywatcher EQ6 Pro goto mount, but if they are not the same would someone explain the difference between them cos they look identical to me but i find it very confusing seeing them both listed, i can't understand why i see both listed but with different model numbers unless they of course different models which would make sense it's the model numbers which are confusing me . many thanks

regards Rob.

FLO's website says...

"This is the latest model NEQ6 PRO with counterweight extension bar and two saddles - one to suit 'Skywatcher 75mm' and one to suit 'Skywatcher 45mm' (Losmandy-style and Vixen-style)."

I couldn't find an EQ6 Pro for sale on their website. Am I right to infer that the NEQ6 Pro has now succeeded the older version (EQ6 Pro) but the only difference is that the NEQ6 Pro has the extension bar and a second saddle included in the package?

It is a bit confusing because the blurb on the webpage titled "Skywatcher NEQ6 PRO Synscan " describes it using the term "The Sky-Watcher EQ6 PRO SynScan ".

I'm confused so I'd welcome anyone else's comments too :(!

something else that confuses me is the only way i can see of getting a EQ6 Pro from FLO is with one of several telescopes for instance the Skywatcher Explorer 150P & the Skywatcher Explorer 200P DS at FLO come with several choices of mount including from the EQ5 up to the EQ6 Pro in fact i think all the Skywatcher mounts from the EQ3 mount upwards can be bought seperatly but for some reason the EQ6 Pro is not one of them but the NEQ6 Pro is, also the price of the NEQ6 Pro and the EQ6 Pro is the same, well at FLO they are anyway i don't know about elsewhere. tis all very confusing :( well to me anyway.

I think if you order an OTA plus EQ6 from FLO you get the new NEQ6 complete with the counterweight extension bar and both Vixen and Losmandy saddles. At least, that's what I got when I ordered my ED80 and EQ6 from FLO.

I would give them a ring to confirm first though.

Since my last post, my wife has come home with a brand new mount - Honestly!

On the box it says "854 EQ6 Pro SkyScan GOTO Mount & Tripod".

Inside, there's the mount, with "NEQ6 Pro" on it, as per Mr Spocks photo above. There are two saddles, one wider than the other so I presume they're Vixen and Losmandy. It also has a bar that is 200mm long - which must be the counterweight extension.

I ordered this from Telescope House on 25/12/10, where it was advertised as "Ref 854 EQ6 PRO SkyScan GOTO Mount & Tripod".

I'm off to play now :) !

Jonathan

PS: Great service from TH :( !

Wow that's very quick service indeed especially as it states on their website that they won't start shipping out stuff ordered in the Christmas sale which started Christmas day untill after they come back on the 4th January so indeed that's excellent service.

It is confusing. Originally there was the EQ6 PRO, then there was the NEQ6 PRO with an extension piece for the counterweight bar and a Losmandy-type saddle but it was only available with the Explorer 300p. Then they confused things by putting the NEQ6 badge on the original EQ6 PRO. Now they offer the NEQ6 PRO with extension piece for the counterweight bar and both Vixen-type and Losmandy-type saddles, there are no other versions. The mount you will receive next Mon/Tue is the latest NEQ6 PRO.

HTH,

Steve :D

Ok Steve i understand that now many thanks for that information, so as i understand it now the extension piece needed for the counterweight bar was i assume required for the extra weights needed for the heavier Explorer 300p ? just one more question about the counterweight bar, how much longer is it on the NEQ6 Pro than was on the original EQ6 & the EQ6 Pro

'twould seem that all answers are correct. When the NEQ6 was "born", the N referred to the shipment with a newtonian OTA, CW extension, and Losmandy style dovetail. Then, for some time, it shipped with the Vixen dovetail and older CW shaft. Now, some people are reporting receiving the two dovetails and longer shaft.

In addition, the innards have gone through some fluctuations. Some have had a wider internal shaft, some brass spacers instead of nylon, different configurations of pins versus bolts, etc. There is a current thread in the Yahoo! EQ6 Users Group. There seems to be a variety of instruments in place with the NEQ6 badge.

Surprised this isn't listed as one of the conspiracy theories...designed to keep astonomers away from their scopes and chatting on this forum and reseaching the 'net.

Maybe there is something up there somebody doesn't want us to see.

It's suddenly all becoming very clear

Just to confirm from my purchase from FLO ordered mondayish and delivered yesterday - this is not bundled with a scope:

EQ6 SynScan

* Mount labelled "NEQ6 Pro" on the badge (Illuminated Polar scope in the mount)

* SynScan V3.17, including a RS232 cable to attach to the handcontroller RJ11

* Losmandy wide mount saddle in the mount box attached to the mount

* Vixen mount saddle in the tripod box

* Extension bar in the mount box

* Two 5Kg wieghts in tripod box

* Cig connector power lead, some allen keys

Hope that helps.

That 3.17 version is pretty stale; you'll probably want to visit the Skywatcher site and download 3.27 and upgrade your hand controller.

My Atlas EQ-G has been a superb tool for me for the last 6 years, out at different locations for public outreach five or six times each month, plus 8 nights each June for the Grand Canyon Star Party. And, using EQMOD/EQASCOM, great satellite tracking as well; never fails to get the ISS dead center.

  • 4 years later...

I have a new EQ6 arriving tomorrow.

It was advertised as an "EQ6 Duel Axis Drive - White" ( yes, 'Dual' was spelt 'Duel' ) Maybe this particular Synta incarnation has the motors fighting one and other.  I really have no idea what

I'll find when I open the box. The dealer linked his ad to a Sky Watcher site for an EQ6 SynScan GPS.

For someone very new to the astro scene it has been very confusing trying to sort out the various EQ6/NEQ6/NEQ6 Pro/EQ6 Syntrek/EQ6 SynScan/NEQ6 SynScan/EQ6 SynScan GPS plus the model I've bought, just to name a few.

I'll let you know tomorrow just what was in the box.

Look forward to see what you get.I think Skywatcher changed from Eq6 to Neq6 in 2008.Mine was bought in 2012 as Neq6 with extended bar and dual saddle.

You might want to upgrade the saddle puck if funds allow to the ADM one if mounting a large setup.post-17547-0-39021700-1440174806_thumb.j.

Well it arrived with a BLACK mount and a WHITE tripod, no counterweights, and one saddle mounting plate lock knob missing.

I've changed the original saddle puck to the later SkyWatcher one and the dealer is sending me the missing counterweights, in WHITE.

On the plus side the tripod was the later version with the 2" S/Steel legs.

It looks like something from the set of the Black & White Minstrel Show but I must admit it is growing on me. I'll post a pic when it all arrives.
