well, I now have a fully operational EQ5!! Thanks to the brilliant practical skills of my dad, not only the RA axis is fully connected, but the dec axis is also working perfectly. It took him under an hour, once he knew what I had found out. All I need to do now is get that counterweight on. I just tested the drives now. Aligned the mount as best as I could and switched it on, and the stars were in just the same place in the 25mm EP 15 minutes later. I haven't found out whether it's perfect yet, but it's definitely working!
