Canon 1000D temperature spec

The manual for my Canon 1000D says ambient temperature range is specified at 0 to +40 centigrade.

I'm outside with my old DSI IIc CCD at he moment and the internal temperature reading has just plummeted to below zero. As I remember the camera used to run about +5C hot so it's a bit brisk at the moment out there.

I was just wasting a couple of hours on M1 until Orion came up, however I'm now thinking it is too cold to change over to the Canon for some widefield work.

Anybody got any experience of the Canon at these temperatures?
