Define 'decent'! <grin>. The Widescreen Centre in London has 1mW ones. Brighter than that runs into problems and restrictions.

As a follow-up to this thread, there is quite a large range of output power ranging from 1mw to 300mw.

Does anyone know how far a 1mw green laser beam is roughly visible for.

Does it give the impression of 100m beam length or longer when using it or would a more powerful mw version be required as would this produce a brighter beam or a brighter more focused spot if the beam is pointed to a wall say 500m away.

I would need to buy one and would like to buy the most suitable for my own personal astro use when viewing on my own or showing others what star is what.
