HEQ5 and HEQ6 mounting..

I'm sure the answer to this is yes, but...

Do they both have the same mounting on the head, so if I put a pier in for the HEQ5 and change to the HEQ6 later will it just drop on?

I know that the EQ5 and the HEQ5 are more or less the same but I have feeling that the EQ6 is slightly different - I guess Arthur (Ambermille) or Rus would know for sure - sorry that I can't be more specific - it's definately worth checking carefully before assuming they are interchangable.

They have different fittings.

Pillar supports are available for the HEQ5 and EQ6; an extension pillar is available for the EQ6 only.

They are indeed different. But the guy who owned my HEQ5 had modded an EQ6 tripod to fit the HEQ5. Worked well.

Yup - modding the EQ6 tripod to fit the HEQ5 is OK, but not the other way. Not that you would want to.

He just put a collar inside the cup where the mount sits just to stop it moving about.....worked like a charm.

Why not buy the EQ6 pillar and adapt for the HEQ5. Then when you upgrade just remove the inner ring that stops the HEQ5 moving around.

I would say he had it made up. Something Arthur could in his sleep. That said, i don't why it should even be metal, could be a bit of old wood. It's not load bearing piece, just stopping the HEQ5 sliding around.
