book for dso's

Hi, I have a goto mounted scope, but not always as reliable as i would want. i was looking for a reference book, pocket sized ideally, which would give some infor on DSO's and charts for locating. anyone got any suggestions? also have a iphone so apps are an option to

An alternative to consider is The Observer's Sky Atlas: With 50 Star Charts Covering the Entire Sky: Amazon.co.uk: Erich Karkoschka: Books though it is considerably more expensive than the S&T Atlas.

I started with this one Philip's Deep Sky Observer's Guide: Amazon.co.uk: Neil Bone: Books - it has finder charts but I prefer to use the Pocket Sky Atlas as has been suggested.

I would recommend 'Illustrated guide to astronomical wonders' by Robert and Barbara Thompson. Its a paperback and covers a complete constellation guide, equipment lists and instructions, charts and diagrams and hundreds of deep sky objects and multiple stars.

Costs about £20.

A useful companion for scopes from 4" to 10".
