Speck of dirt or Io?

Recommended Posts

In the gaps in the clouds (and there weren't many) there was an iddy biddy black spot on Jupiter. Could it be Io? Could it my first lunar transit of Jupiter?

Or have I just got dust on the lens (:() which stays put when I moved the scope?

Just goes to show you - bigger scope - more details.... Loving it but not sure about the clouds though. Best retire for the evening..

I think you're seeing Io's shadow transit. Io's transit ends at 22:42, but if it ends at 23:13 tonight then it's the shadow transit. I've been watching this since the shadow transit started at 20:50 - fascinating, isn't it :(

I saw that this was happening on Stellarium and got everything out ready to see the transit, it was really clear in Northern Ireland but the seeing was terrible.

Jupiter was shimmering like in a heat haze, so I gave it up as a bad job.

:(
