Stargazing at the beach

Hello,

Over here in Puerto Rico (in the Caribbean Sea) some of the darkest spots perfect for stargazing are located on the beaches. However, I am concerned if the right-next-to-the-beach environment can affect adversely my telescope and equipment. Can the lenses and/or coatings be damaged by being too close to the sea?

Only if they catch some spray from the seawater or actually end up IN the sea....

beware of fine sand blowing around and getting into your EP case etc !!!

I observe from within earshot of the sea and although I have to clean my optics slightly more than someone observing inland i havent had a problem so far...

SPM is based not a million miles from the sea at Selsey.

I've herd that observing over water is actually very good as it cuts down on thermal currents.

I'm on the look out for a small observatory situated on an island in the middle of a lake if anyone can help out at all?
