robindurant
I bought my scope in April and have been looking forward to capturing the M42. Last night I got it and I am pleased with the result seeing its my first attempt. I would appreciate comments as to how I can improve next time. It was a single shot 30 secs. I did take 20 subs and stacked them but this single was the one I liked better than the stacked.Robin

geppetto
Thats a great start on M42 Robin 8)With that object, take shots at varying exposures so that you can then blendthem together to reduce the burnt out core and increase the fainter whispy bits

robindurant
Hi CCI use Deep Sky Stacker. I stacked 12 at 60 sec, ISO 1600. The resulting image was very dark but the colours came out ok when using levels but I could not get the whispery edges that my single sub produced and the stars were no more clear. I have attached the stacked subs for you to look at, the colours are more vivid.
