Comet 103P Hartley

Comet 103P Hartley is a challenge at the moment. Currently looks similar to a small faint galaxy.

This sketch was made at my 12" dob with an 8.5mm eyepiece to yield x140 magnification. The brightest star in the sketch is magnitude 10.10. Sketch was made on 12 September at around 23.30 BST

Best view was with averted vision, which let me see the central brightening. The light from it was very diffuse and made it difficult to work out the extent of the comet.

The good news is that the comet is going to brighten over the forthcoming weeks so the view will improve and the comet will become more obvious through a telescope :D
